Features

Let’s quickly run through the main features of the the Sonicare Essence 5300. It boasts an operating speed of 31,000 brush strokes a minute. While that in itself may not tell you much, suffice it to say it means that brush does a very thorough cleaning job on your teeth.

It features a comfortable soft-grip handle, which can be replaced separately should you ever need to. It is a rechargeable toothbrush of course, and can hold a charge for up to 2 weeks of normal use.

As with so many electric toothbrushes, the Essence 5300 features a 2 minute timer, which helps you brush your teeth long enough for best results.

The first noteworthy design aspect of this model is the angled neck, which may seem subtle at first glance but has quite a positive impact on the brushing experience. In particular, it makes the deep corners of your mouth easier to reach and to brush thoroughly.

The toothbrush is fitted with what Philips call “Easy-start technology”. This simply means that the power of the toothbrush gradually increases over the first 12 uses, helping you to get used to it. If you’ve never used an electric toothbrush before you’ll appreciate this, as it is quite different to the manual models most of us grew up with.

We mentioned the timer function in the features above, and this is a small but important addition for dental health. Most of us do not brush our teeth long enough. The timer on this model can also be paused should something briefly interrupt your brushing, and can be restarted again within 30 seconds to continue where you left off.

The charge is claimed to last for 2 weeks with normal twice a day brushing. We got 10 days out of our first charge, but we did do 3 brushes a day at times. It doesn’t take long at all to get used to this toothbrush, and it left my mouth feeling more clean and fresh than any manual toothbrush I’ve ever used.

Reliability

If there’s one thing Philips as an electronics brand is rightly famous for it is their reliability, and the Sonicare Essence 5300 is no different. It is not uncommon for Sonicares to last 5 or more years. The extra initial cost of the Philips will more than pay for itself in the long run thanks to the durability you get.

Consumer Opinions

On Amazon.com, the Sonicare Essence 5300 had amassed a solid 865 customer reviews at the time of this writing. Of these, 729 are 4 and 5 star reviews, giving the product a customer satisfaction rating of 84%. We consider anything above 70% very good for anything electronic, so you can’t argue with the fact that the Essence 5300 is a crowd pleaser. It comes in at considerably less than the Flexcare series, and really, if all you want is properly clean teeth, you don’t need anything more than this.

We highly recommend the Philips Sonicare Essence 5300. It is the most popular electric toothbrush on the market for a reason.

Enjoy!
